What is "Studio Ghibli" even?
Studio Ghibli is, like the name suggest already, a japanese animation studio.
It is known for it's unique anime animation style and their mascot
"Totoro "from the movie "My Neighbour Totoro" (Img. 1).
Studio Ghibli was founded on June 15 1985 by the Directors Hayao Miyazaki
and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki.
After the succes of the 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind,
Miyazaki, Takahata and Suzuki decided to establish the animation studio named "Studio Ghibli"
The first offically released movie by Studio-Ghibli was one year later in 1986, Castle In The Sky (click "Movies").
Where did the Name "Studio Ghibli" come from?
The Name was given by Miyazaki, who chose the word "ghibli" because of the italian word "ghibli" which means "hot desert wind".
He explained that his goal was to „blow a new wind through the anime industry“.
Blurring the gap between reality and fiction
Studio Ghibli has demonstrated how much a painted image can say by using the concept of cartoons and anime.
When watching a brilliant movie, viewers occasionally get to see an unfamiliar world; however, in Ghibli movies,
viewers are led through vivid illustrations of fantastical creatures, bizarre flying machines, and flourishing ancient kingdoms
while listening to a narrative that can be understood by anyone, whether they are children or adults.
Cartoons are typically viewed in the west as being for children, with themes that never quite seem to develop into tales that adults can connect to.
The music is simply the icing on the cake. As you watch, Joe Hisaishi, a composer who is responsible for many of Ghibli's film soundtracks,
stands behind you and uses his magical baton to take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Joe Hisaishi does an excellent job at moving the emotions
and establishing the mood with his music.
